Scholarship Announcements

Ruth and Paul Manz Organ Scholarship
The scholarship is offered through the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. It is intended to be an encouragement to young organ students who are preparing careers as church musicians; the award is $3,000. Applications must be postmarked no later than July 17,  2018. Peter B. Knock Memorial Internship in Sacred Music at Rye Presbyterian Church
Award
: $15,000 for the 2018-2019 academic year. Open to organists already enrolled in, or accepted into, an accredited college or university within a reasonable distance of Rye, New York. An applicant’s course of study must include disciplines related to the performance of sacred music. Application deadline is June 1, 2018. Contact Email.

The scholarships below are currently inactive/and or not accepting new applications.

The Rotary Club of Claremont and the Los Angeles Chapter
A scholarship for the study of the organ. Deadline for an entry is February 16, 2018. More information and Email.

Shipman Organ Scholar Program
The Metropolitan United Church in London, Ontario announces the 2017-18 Shipman Organ Scholar Program. The scholarship covers the cost of one year of undergraduate tuition. The application deadline is March 1, 2018. contact Dr. Gregg Redner, Director of Music, Email.

Fox Valley Organ Competition (Scholarship)
Awards:
First place – $1,500, Second Place – $1,000, Third Place – $500; Application deadline is January 10, 2018 competition is February 24, 2018. See the Fox Valley website.

AGO/Pogorzelski-Yankee Memorial Scholarships
Two scholarships will be awarded for the 2017-18 academic year: one to an entering college freshman ($7,500) and one to an entering 1st year graduate student ($15,000). Online applications accepted January 1st to February 15th, 2018.

Arthur Poister Scholarship Competition in Organ Playing
The scholarship is offered in cooperation of the Syracuse Chapter. There are two scholarship awards, $3000 and $1000. Competitors must not have reached their 30th birthday by April 11, 2017. Deadline for submissions is Feb. 11, 2017; competition is April 1, 2017. Contact Will Headlee at wheadlee@verizon.net.

Suffolk Chapter Scholarships
The Suffolk Chapter sponsors three scholarships.

M. Louise Miller and Paul E. Knox Scholarship
Award: $2,500 for 2017
The application includes a short essay and a recording of two standard organ pieces. The Greater Bridgeport Chapter sponsers the scholarship. Application deadline is June 1, 2017.

Southern Methodist University Undergraduate Scholarship (competition)
Awards: First Prize full tuition and fees scholarship to SMU for BMU in organ performance; Second Prize minimum of half tuition and fees scholarship to SMU for BM in organ performance. January 21, 2017. More information.

College of the Holy Cross
Full tuition undergraduate scholarship for an organ scholar. Applicants should already have some experience in church music. The application deadline is January 15, 2017.

Académie d’Orgue de Fribourg Organ Scholarship
The scholarship is for the academic year 2016-17 and includes 5000CHF; application deadline is March 1, 2016.  For more information: Tel. + 41 26 470 00 89 or info@academieorgue.ch.

Roberta Bitgood Scholarship
The scholarship is sponsored by the New London County Chapter and is open to organists of all ages and abilities.  Application deadline is Friday, June 13, 2014, and the award is $750. For information contact Jesse Glaude at ccsartsmail@yahoo.com.

Ronald Barnes Memorial Scholarship
Sponsored by the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America. The scholarship provides an opportunity to pursue studies, within North America, in North American carillon performance, composition, music history or instrument design. Application deadline is March 1, 2017.

AGO Brooklyn Chapter
The Brooklyn Scholarship seeks to encourage excellence and educate young organists in the performance of organ music.  A scholarship competition will be held on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at 3:00 PM, at Grace Episcopal Church, 254 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201.  The competition has two separate categories for high school and college organists, and is open to any student who resides, works, or studies in one of the five boroughs of New York City.  Contact Sub-Dean John A.
