Keyboards, Cookies, and You!
April 30, 2014
Dear Parents, Guardians, Teachers, and Sponsors of young musicians,
The members of the Muncie Chapter of the American Guild of Organists are offering area youth an opportunity to learn about keyboard instruments that may be new to them. Many of our students are familiar with the piano but may not have experienced the pipe organ, harpsichord or carillon. We want to provide them with a first-hand introduction to these instruments at the following event:
Keyboards, Cookies, and You!
Saturday, June 7, 2014
9 a.m. to 12 noon
Ball State University
Students will discover answers to the following:
How does a pipe organ work, and what does it feel like to play one? Hargreaves Music Building, Room 315
How do the bells ring from the tower? Climb the 101 steps of the Shafer Tower to see the carillon in action!
How does the harpsichord make its sound? Why does the huge pipe organ in Sursa Hall have so many keyboards and knobs and pedals? Music Instruction Bldg. (MIB) and Sursa Performance Hall stage
How can I celebrate what I’ve learned? Refreshments at the Honors House, next to MIB
Download and print the following PDF documents:
Please inform your entering 3rd to 12th grade students of this opportunity. Deadline for registration is: Wednesday, June 4, 2014. (We have recently updated our guidelines to include 3rd and 4th graders; also, we have extended the registration deadline to Wednesday, June 4. Please note–the downloadable PDF documents do not reflect these changes.)
Thank you for making students aware of this great opportunity.
