Message from the Dean

Sept/Oct Newsletter

Dear friends of the organ,

Greetings from your new Dean (who used to be the old Dean!). I have recently finished the final paperwork from our Convention, and can now turn my attention to the Chapter again. Please pardon the delay in getting our year started. We have several wonderful events planned for the year, and I hope that you can attend many of them.

Our Convention was an absolute success. We had about 120 attendees, and raised over $4,000 for our chapter. We also received an award from the National AGO last year of $500 for increasing our chapter membership. So, our chapter is in a great financial position. Our Board will be coming up with some guidelines for how best to utilize this money, and we welcome comments from the membership.

Right now, our Board consists of a Dean and a Sub-Dean, as well as a reluctant person serving as both Secretary and Treasurer. Vicky has served well in this capacity in the past, and is staying on to help the chapter. However, she would like the opportunity to mentor new people for these positions. If you have any interest in serving as Secretary or Treasurer (or both) or as an At-Large member, please let me know. I promise the time commitment won¡¦t be extensive. We would love to involve more chapter members in decisions. Many past Board members also served extra time on the Convention Committee, so they have asked for some well-deserved time off.

Our programming begins in October. We will have an exchange of Advent and Christmas music at Covenant Presbyterian Church on October 14 at 7:00 PM. Please bring some of your favorite organ, bell, instrumental, and choral music to share ideas with other group members. There will be plenty of time for us to learn the music if we can share the ideas by mid-October. The more ideas we share, the better the evening will be for everyone. We welcome all styles and levels of music.

In November, we’re planning another Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza event to reach out to young pianists in the area. This is scheduled for Nov. 2 at Grace United Methodist Church. Look to next month’s newsletter for the final details. You might consider contacting your friends with piano students or members of your nearest children’s choir to help recruit attendees.

Please send in your membership forms to Vicky if you haven’t done so already. We look forward to seeing you on October 14.

Best for the coming year,
Jeremy
