Eight Prizes Presented to Six Organists at National Convention in Houston, TX

The American Guild of Organists  is pleased to announce the results of its National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance (NYACOP) and the National Competition in Organ Improvisation (NCOI). Prizewinners were recognized at the 53rd biennial AGO National Convention in Houston, Tex. The following prizes were awarded: National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance First Prize—Katelyn Emerson The Jordan Organ Endowment Prize: $10,000, awarded in conjunction with a solo recital on the Jordan Family Organ in Columbus, GA; The Lilian Murtagh Memorial Prize: $3,000 cash award and career development assistance provided by Karen McFarlane Artists; a CD recording by Pro Organo; a performance at the 2018 AGO National … [Read more...]

AGO Taiwan Chapter Sponsors Organ Competition

The American Guild of Organists Taiwan chapter sponsored the country's first organ competition on July 20, 2104. , Six finalists were selected to compete on that day. There were nearly 300 people present at the competition. The first-round judges were Maw Sheng Chen and Nigel Potts, and the judges for the final were Felix Hell, Kitty Yang, and Lynn Kuo. Schantz Organ Company was the major sponsor for this event. Pogorzelski-Yankee Composition Competition Deadline Nears

Submissions to the 2016 Pogorzelski-Yankee Composition Competition are due by November 28th, 2014. The Pogorzelski-Yankee tracker organ is now in its new home at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The competition fosters the creation of new music for this instrument and organs of this size. The 2016 Competition calls for an organ composition of 10-12 minutes in length; there are no restrictions in regard to compositional style.
