Message from the Dean

Welcome and thank you for visiting our web page!

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Chapter of the American Guild of Organists conducted its first year of programs during 1976 and 1977. From that beginning, we continue to be musicians and supporters who are warm and welcoming. We work to exemplify an active and diverse group of people who exhibit their love of our instrument while providing networking, fellowship and mutual support.  Throughout the Covid-19 health restrictions, we continue to meet monthly online through video presentations and social time; and we are beginning to plan our regular in person meetings.  This Chapter regularly encourages member performances, supports an ongoing scholarship program and continues to engage wider audiences through collaborative concerts.  It would be my pleasure to tell you more about our Chapter.  Please contact me at diane.kingsbury@outlook.com

Diane Kingsbury, Dean

Chapter Meeting and Event Calendar 2020-2021

Most chapter meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at various churches in the area.

Saturday, March 20, Time 9:00am – 9:00pm
Bach Around the Clock
Online – link TBA
Sponsored by The Heifetz Institute and Christ  Lutheran Church, Staunton, VA

Bach Around the Clock represents a community partnership to celebrate Bach’s magnificent music.  On this Saturday before Bach’s birthday, from 9 am until 9 pm, both passionate amateurs and polished professionals will perform.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, everything will be pre-recorded and put up online. It will go live on Saturday, March 20th at 9:00 AM and will run all day, but the link will remain active for some days after that. Performers will include strings, organ, keyboard (piano, harpsichord, and organ) and solo vocal selections. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the virus, we cannot have any choral performances this year. Our Chapter members will participate by providing organ selections for a portion of this day.

Contact: Diane Kingsbury, Dean, for scheduling at Email

Tuesday, April 20, Time 7:30pm (Alternately, this may be a Zoom event)
Welcome Concert with Carol Williams and the new Viscount!
Host: Dr. Carol Williams
Location: St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish, 401 Alderman Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903
We hope that this large new church building may be the location of our first “in person” meeting since February, 2020.  In addition to this new structure, St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish has a brand new hybrid pipe organ built by Viscount.  The acoustics of this new church have been noted to resemble the great cathedrals of Europe.  The organ has been built with the most sophisticated technology to date combining high end electronics to supplement the actual organ pipes.  Dr. Williams, who wears the three hats of the Artistic Director of Musical Events,  the Organist in Residence and  the Choir Director, has been regularly hosting weekly mini-concerts online as well as in person since last summer.  She will present a program on this instrument as it is introduced to our Chapter members.
Contact: Diane Kingsbury, Dean, for more information at Email
Tuesday, May 18, Time 7:30pm
End of Year Gathering
Host: If prevailing health conditions are safe, an area location will be announced.  The alternative will be a Zoom meeting.
Mainly promoted as a social gathering, Chapter members will comment on the preceding year of programs and assist in planning the 2021-2022 year.
