Will your chapter help grow the next generation of organists by hosting a POE event in 2021? For summer 2020 we have eight Pipe Organ Encounters, and several are already filled to capacity!  We want to keep that momentum going - has your chapter applied to host a POE in 2021? POE Information for Chapters

Successful POE events of all types (POE, POE+, POE-Advanced, and POE-Technical) have been sponsored by both small and large chapters since 1988. What facilities will we need? Instruments - one pipe organ for every two participants (creative scheduling is recommended if fewer instruments are available) Housing - university, college, or seminary dormitories are generally recommended Transportation - preferably buses or vans (bonded/insured) or private cars to transport students everywhere Recreation - opportunities for play, social interaction and relaxation are important for both young people and adults! Chapter Outreach to New Organists

The Committee on the New Organist is pleased to offer the following materials to assist chapters and their members with the recruitment and education of new organists. The first portion highlights chapter outreach endeavors including PipeWorks; Pedals, Pipes and Pizza (PPP); POE; POE (Advanced); POE (Technical) and POE+. The second section provides selected resources to complement these endeavors. This collection will be expanded frequently to accommodate additional materials. POE Grant from AGO National Headquarters

POE GRANT REQUEST APPLICATION GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS [Adapted from the POE Handbook:] For all chapters is selected as POE sites, AGO National Headquarters offers a grant of up to $3,500 to each POE site as seed money to begin their work. The purpose of the grant is to help insure that no chapter loses money on its program. This grant money should be used to offset costs (especially advance costs like deposits) necessary to run a POE; for example, housing, meals, fees associated with venues, printing, mailing, website costs, etc. Optional expenses, especially professional artist fees, are covered by the chapter or by creative fundraising. POE Scholarships

Pipe Organ Encounter Scholarship Assistance Need-based scholarship aid is available to cover full or partial registration fees for attending a POE (POE, POEA, or POE-Tech only, not for POE+). Funds are limited, and scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The AGO Pipe Organ Encounter Scholarship application period is January 15 through April 15 each year.  The application is an online form and asks questions of both the participant and her/his parent(s), and requires the submission of a recommendation from the participant's organ or piano teacher, also through an online form. Application to attend an AGO Pipe Organ Encounter is a two-step process: STEP 1: All applicants MUST register online. Your registration is not complete until you submit the form and receive a confirmation email. IMPORTANT: If you indicate on the registration form that you are applying for a scholarship, please also notify the local POE Director of your need for a scholarship. Northwest Indiana 2015 POE

The Northwest Indiana Chapter of AGO, along with the Valparaiso University Student AGO Chapter held its first Pipe Organ Encounter July 5-10, 2015, on the campus of Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana.  Valparaiso’s campus, with 8 pipe organs on campus made for a good and accessible site.  During the week there were thirty-two students in attendance, sixteen faculty, six college counselors, five committee members, and ten volunteers.  Several students had never had an organ lesson before the POE, while one student was attending her fourth POE.  The students were from California, Colorado, North Carolina, Tennessee, as well as most Midwestern states.  Guest faculty included Craig Cramer from the University of Notre Dame, Janette … [Read more...]
