(See AGO Bylaws, Article IV, Sections 13 & 14) The National Nominating Committee nominates candidates for the national officer and councillor positions and, from among the candidates recommended by the regional nominating committees, for the regional councillor positions for each biennial election of the National Council. The committee also approves the appointments to the Regional Nominating Committees, and it is charged with identifying potential leaders and recommending candidates for national committee positions on an ongoing basis.

The committee consists of six members, each of whom serves a single four-year term. No more than two members may be currently serving on the National Council, and at least two must be Academic Members (ChM, AAGO, FAGO). Three members are proposed by the President and elected by the National Council at its first meeting following each national election (even numbered years - fall meeting). At the same meeting, the National Council appoints a Director from among the members of the Committee. The Director serves a two-year term, and may be reappointed.

The National Nominating Committee meets in the fall of odd-numbered years, in time to develop a slate of candidates for the next year's election to be delivered to the National Council at its regular fall meeting.
