| Dear Chapter Members and Friends,
September and October have been loaded with fabulous WOW! organ music events. Don’t miss upcoming events! · Bravo! Thank you, Laura Rau, for a masterful and inspiring recital on the WSU Marcussen Organ Sept. 30th. Be sure to note recognition of Laura’s 2nd place Region VI Quimby Regional honor – p. 62 October TAO. · Don’t miss the next WSU “French Connection” Bloomfield concert – James David Christie, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 7:30 pm. Lynne Davis has found new excitement to energize this wonderful organ concert series. Also look forward to: WSU Organ Day Jan. 26, 2008, a WSU and Wichita AGO co-sponsored event. · Our next chapter event: Tuesday, Nov. 13 6:30 pm First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway. Enjoy a potluck dinner with AGO friends (bring your favorite dish to share) and music sale to benefit our scholarship fund followed by Brett Valliant’s demonstration of significant new additions to the 1st Methodist Schantz Organ. · “Pipes on the Plains” Region VI AGO convention–June 2009. Plans for our own regional convention with be publicized soon and it will be exciting. Plan now to block June 15-18, 2009 and attend every minute of the convention. What a wonderful opportunity for us, here in Wichita, to associate with more than 200 organists from our 9 state region, showcase some of the best Wichita organs, and participate in performances and presentations of national artists and clinicians. Exciting stuff! · “Each One Reach One!” Never miss the opportunity to introduce an organist, church musician or music aficionado to AGO. Programs are open to all and there is a level of membership for all that will benefit every member as well as our organization. Every membership effort will benefit our 2009 convention and the future of Wichita AGO. · 2008-2009 International Year of the Organ – a project spearheaded by the national AGO to celebrate and show pride in our chosen instrument. Our chapter will be working to promote this cause throughout the next year. Be thinking how you can promote the organ in your own church. Any ideas or projects, no matter how small, can benefit music in your own church, influence our organization, and our planned regional convention. AGO is an organization of musicians who are thankful to one another for every member’s work to inspire the minds and souls of all they serve. · Interesting November TAO p. 74 article to note: “iPODS & You Tube for Organists” written by the husband of KU doctoral student and Mission, KS church organist, Anna Myeong. See more of Wichita in future issues of The American Organist Magazine Remember that your music work is important and appreciated! Thank you, AGO friends! Anticipation is mounting as Lynne Davis prepares her first Young People's Pipe Organ Concert to be performed in Wiedemann Hall Wednesday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. You can help by telling your friends about it, and encouraging them to check the WSU website for details. Postcards will be sent out soon to area public and parochial schools, as well. Spread the word that we have an exciting performer on campus - an acclaimed artist with an ability to choose music which appeals to all ages and to deliver it with a winning style and sense of humor! If you would like to help usher at this event, please contact Irene Shaw at 733-0323. Other news: Two USD #259 schools have opted for demonstrations in churches near their schools. Three Butler County Community College classes have attended demonstrations; three more are scheduled. POPs for KIDS is still a member of Arts Partners. (http://artspartnerswichita.org) POPs for KIDS has been in existence for over 15 years now. Its progress is going to be heavily dependent upon advertising and communication.
