Message from the Dean
Welcome to our webpage! Our community (Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, Fortuna, Trinidad, and surrounding area) is on the beautiful North Coast of California, surrounded by redwood forest. Pipe organs in the area range from a one-manual Bosch tracker at Humboldt State University (Arcata) to a new Charles Kegg III/30 at Christ Episcopal Church (Eureka).
Our small chapter offers organ scholarships which pay for one half of the cost of 12 private lessons. Contact the Dean of the Chapter for application forms. Lessons are available for beginners to advanced levels, and some piano experience is preferred.
We welcome all communication from other organists, choir directors, and other musicians and always welcome new members. You may join the Chapter at either the national level or as a Chapter Friend. Contact our Secretary/Treasurer for membership information.
In 2008, the Sequoia Chapter gave a donation to Christ Episcopal Church (Eureka) to help establish a concert series featuring the new Kegg organ. Now called “Organ Concerts at Christ Church,” the series features two major organ concerts per year.
Performers for the 2014 concert series will be:
Sunday, February 23, 2014, 3:00 pm – Clive Driskill-Smith
“Hailed as a ‘star of a new generation’ (Evening Standard), critics have praised his ‘blazing technique’ and ‘unbelievable virtuosity’ (American Guild of Organists) and described his performances as ‘intensely moving’ and ‘truly breathtaking’ (Organo Pleno Melbourne).”
Sunday, September 21, 2140 at 3 pm – Paul Tegels & Dana Robinson
Paul Tegels has performed extensively in solo and ensemble concerts in the United States, Europe, Japan, and New Zealand. Dana Robinson is organist of Grace Lutheran Church in Champaign, Illinois. His performances are frequently featured on the nationally syndicated radio program, Pipedreams.
Concerts are at Christ Episcopal Church (15th and H Streets), Eureka, CA. Suggested donation: $15 individual/$25 family. A ‘Meet the Artist’ reception follows each performance. For more information, call: 707-442-1797
