Message from the Dean |
| Greetings to all!
I am pleased to accept the position of Dean of the Columbus chapter of AGO for 2007-2008 and am excited about some of the programming we are planning. There will be four or five events and I think that you will agree that we will have something for most everyone. As plans become reality, the programs will be announced in the local events section. One of my goals is to increase and diversify our membership by encouraging other local organists and choir directors who may be potential members but have never been asked. I will be asking the help of the membership with reaching out to others. Adleyn Scott, Dean |

Dear music friends, Our next AGO program is set for Monday evening, January 14th, 6:30-8:00 PM in Stockwell Hall at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, Georgia. Constantina Tsoulainou, Conductor of the Columbus State University (CSU) Chorale, will conduct a choral workshop. Stockwell Hall is at the rear of St. Luke Church on Third Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets. Please enter the doors on the west side of 3rd Avenue. Constantina is the Amos Chair for Choral Activities at CSU. Her previous positions include Westminster Choir College, New Jersey, Southern Methodist University and Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Dallas. She has collaborated with James Jordan on conducting videos. There will be a session on warm-ups, “Teaching through warm-ups,” followed by a reading session where she will put the warm-up techniques into action, using the participants as choir members. She has already made selections for the music packets. Reading packets will focus on Lent & Easter and will be available for purchase. The selections include a wide range of good literature – all of it written by living composers, many of whom she has taught or collaborated with. The music will not be too ‘high-church’ for the average choir. We are inviting all the choral music teachers in the area (Phenix County, Harris County, MCSD and private schools) as well as all the church choir directors. It will be a good chance for them to meet the conductor face-to-face and learn more about her exciting plans for choral music at CSU. Rick McKnight: “I attended a Chorister’s Guild workshop last January where Constantina was the adult clinician. She is an entertaining and captivating presenter. Her sessions were full of practical advice and techniques.” We will have a picnic-style supper from 6-6:30, and will ask for a small donation to cover the food costs. Please make a reservation if you plan to dine with us. Email Adleyn Scott at the email address below. As we all enter the Christmas finales in our church, please mention this program to your choir members and music friends BEFORE the break so that we can plan accordingly. We hope to have a large number of attendees, so tell everyone in your circle. Rick and Adleyn Rick: rick@kiddieshoppe.com Adleyn: adleyn.scott@mchsi.com |
