Let the Nations Rejoice - First Baptist Church, Los Angeles Pre-service recitalist: James Walker, playing works of Langlais, Franck and Dupré. The combined choirs of All Saints Episcopal Church and Pasadena Presbyterian Church, both of Pasadena, California, along with a brass ensemble and percussionists serve as the musical leadership for this ecumenical Protestant service. The service incorporates a creative variety of liturgical music from many cultures and historical periods, including Williametta Spencer’s O Come, Let Us Sing, a convention commission. The Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes Jr., AGO National Chaplain and Senior Minister of New York City’s Riverside Church will offer a homily titled “Music and The Next Great Awakening.” A Service of Evensong - First Congregational Church, Los Angeles Pre-service recitalist: Lynne Davis, playing works of Vierne, Marchand and Franck. The choirs of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills and St. James’ Episcopal Church, Los Angeles, combine to lead this traditional Anglican liturgy featuring the Chichester Service of William Walton, Preces and Responses by James Buonemani and choral music by Dale Adelmann, Craig Phillips and Patrick Gowers. The Very Rev. Canon Mary June Nestler, Dean of the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont, will officiate. A Jewish Sabbath Service - Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Los Angeles Pre-service recitalist: William Beck, playing works of Dupré and Mendelssohn. The professional Wilshire Boulevard Temple Choir with organist William Beck and the rabbinic leadership of the Temple will present a Sabbath Morning Service including readings from the Torah. The service will include music by Ludwig Altman, A.W. Binder, Charles Feldman, Joel Gordon and Neil Robinson. Cantor Don Gurney, of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, will be leading the prayer. |
